The version thought to be the RTM (no one is sure yet) is 6.0.6001.18000. So this ain't it, just wait a week or two for the real deal. By then we will all know if build 18000 is the RTM or if Microsoft has made/makes a new build. There has to be a logical reason for Microsoft to wait until mid march to release sp1 to the public.

I installed SP buile 6.0.6001.17028 every thing is perfect. Property showed it's Service Pack 1 not RC
Umm...this is the real deal. Only one person here shows that they actually tried to install it rather then look at the version number...thats libertard03.
If you want more proof try this...(you need 7-zip)

2) Go to 7-zip
3) Open Archive
4) Expand it so you can read file names

What about a crack/patch to avoid receiving the label of an non-genuine OS?

Put it this way, if you do winkey + r, type winver and hit ok, and it doesn't say in there "Expires XX/XX/XX" and the build number is shown as 18000, ill believe it.

There are way more then the amount of seeders and leechers it states above. Why does it lie to me?
For us testers who Microsoft are refusing to help I have to download a torrent. After much research I do not believe this is SP1 RTM. I think this is SP1 RC Refresh 2. While both major versions are 6001.18000 the EULA suggest that this is not the RTM. The Refresh 2 will not show anything other than Service Pack 1 and will not display and evaluation copy. It looks like SP1 RTM but I am not convinced, if nothing else people can use it until it is released fully as the change from refresh 2 --> RTM is negligible

Supposedly, Microsoft decided to stick with RC Refresh 2 build. I heard that on a few sites, however, there could still be minor changes. I have yet to encounter an error with it yet.
If I do encounter any SP1 related errors I will let you guys know immediately.

Just installed it without any problems or errors . It says servicepack 1 . And best of all, it still says genuine windows ultimate .

It IS the final build 18000, BUT interestingly, MS didnt update the build in the .exe (rightclick, properties, shows 17028). This seems to have led to confusion.
As for the DX10.0 v's DX10.1 thing, they haven't included 10.1 yet, only laid the groundwork to do so later as it is not ready. This has been reported on many tech sites and forums - just for the heads up.

No you were right, the changelog states that it adds support. However, when you run dxdiag it states that it is DX 10.0 I don't think it has been added yet. I was just posting the changelog to let other's know what has actually changed. I didn't post is against your previous post. :)

Bah after all that time I spent downloading the RTM iso. Oh well at least this way I can continue using my legal key instead of the BIOS hack.

Why don't the seeders and leechers update correctly?
I have an Acer laptop which I activated with via "slmgr -ilc acer.xrm-ms" and the correct Acer CD Key. I installed SP1 (from this torrent) last night and it is still genuine. I also can verify that this torrent is 6001.18000.080118-1840. It looks like Microsoft simply forgot to update the build number on the installer to match it's contents. Next I want to try the ISO in a VM with custom bios with an Asus SLIC. I think it will still work. I suspect MS just defeated the old BIOS EMU exploit.
Just installed this with no problems, took 45 mins on my machine, all is working fine.
Worked on my "OEM" Vista without a hitch, Windows Update still works..... actually seems to have improved performance a bit over all.

For people who don't succeed patching this update, i recommend to download the full version (not patch only, but vista with SP1 included)
Most common problems for vista not installing via patch:
- Your (old) crack does not work anymore
- You have modified your vista installation (lite version, patching windows files)
- Other :D

Works fine with VistaLoader 2.2 and runs Windows Update no problem. Shows up as proper SP1.
Another "works for me". Originally had Vista Ultimate x32 with vistaloader crack on an Intel motherboard (asus certificate). SP1 installed with no issues. Still shows as activated.
I installed this and it works fine. It does kill a lot of the activation cracks though. The only ones that might work are some of the oem bios grldr ones.
I didnt want to get into the final version argument, but since I was not able to get an activation working I wanted to uninstall this SP and this is what I found... It was Service Pack KB936330... and a search in google gave me this ms page:

so based at least on the update number it gave me (go to add uninstall programs and then view installed updates) it is indeed the release candidate and not the final. I am going to wait for the final and hope in the meantime a good activation fix comes along...

Make it affordable (200 is expensive, but ok... 400 is outright theft) and cut out all the hoops we have to jump through to use it and you would probably sell more copies!

This has been mentioned so, so many times. Microsoft never updated the .exe file. To clicking on the vista orb, then search system information, click on it and read what it says. This is the final build. If you did a little more googling you would have found that out.

Downloaded and installed. Given that the file reports the wrong version via properties, I ran MS Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool... google it... In the Windows Tab towards the end you'll see a line that reports the Architecture & Built. The installe RTM is listed.

Ok, ive installed it, took a while. Everything seems to be running smoothly, no problems what so ever...so as a regular user I can recommend this one.

Not any change in performance from RC2 as that was already the final code (only version changes in SP1 final) but it beats having vanilla Vista (it now feels like it should, e.g. as snappy as XP) and of course having to wait for MS to sort out the "driver issues" and release SP1 to everyone.
I also downloaded the x64 version which I will apply when I reinstall Vista with x64 in a couple of weeks to take full advantage of the 4Gb of RAM. Quick download speed btw, the combined for both torrents was over 3Mbps. Seeded to 200%. My thanks go to bigern1990 for releasing this - good work!

WEll I have been following this discussion for a while and after a bit of research i found out that the RC refresh and RTM are exactly the same. there may be a slight difference when the code is released on windows update but other than that its the same. and oh yea this info has been confirmed by MS. So install away!
Alright quick question: I downloaded a Vista Standalone SP1 updater from a private tracker and after installation in my system info page it said that i had 14 days to activate.

i have a celeron 1.86 ghz laptop with 2 GB kingston RAM. i also have genuine windows vista home premium installed. i had to disable aero in order to run vista smoothly. i was also sick of waiting for micrososft to publicly release SP1. then i found this, downloaded and installed it too, and guess what - i have turned on AERO, and my laptop is still snappier than XP ever was. TRULY A GREAT JOB. DONT HAVE ENOUGH WORDS TO THANK YOU. all of you doubting if it actually is the final SP1, well yes it totally is. examined the registry, windows about dialog, system properties, advanced diagnostics etc. 2 thumbs up!!.

i tried downloading sp1 off microsoft's webpage. the download fails on 2 computers. never had that problem before with other websites and i have cable internet. torrent > download center
